Another momentous Panagbenga 2015 is being held and celebrated this month-long of February on the season of flowers in Baguio City. Once again, the locals of Baguio will showcase an exceptionally innate versatility in dance and art where various performers and artists will exhibit their multicolored and florid costumes together with the intricately designed picturesque floats this coming Saturday and Sunday at the "Grand Street Dancing Parade" and "Grand Float Parade".
Panagbenga Festival is an annual celebration of flower festival on the entire month of February in the "Summer Capital", Baguio City. The term originated from the Malayo-Polynesian which means season of blooming. The festival was created as a tribute to the city's flowers and as a way to rise up from the devastating 1990 Luzon Earthquake. The festival includes the float parade and street dancing which are all flower-inspired.
More than a great contribution to the city's economic growth and development, Panagbenga Festival also plays a significant role in inculcating into the young minds the recognition of our natural resources, environmental awareness and enrichment of our cultures and traditions. This meaningful event also serves as an aid in diverting the youths to stray from drug abuse, and other illegal activities that corrupt their future. Moreover, participating in the community activities present their individual skills and abilities on different fields like music, dance and art, and also enhance their talents and capabilities which help build and shape self-esteem.
